Diamond Grinder/Lapper

SUMMARY:  To finish grind, within drawing requirements/tolerances, diamond roll profiles, bores and faces.  Machines to be utilized are various grinders such as ring grinders, surface grinders, cylindrical grinders and Universal Heald grinders.  Maintaining quality and safety standards; maintaining equipment and tooling; keeping records.

HOURS: 1st shift hours are Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Read, understand, and follow work orders and engineering drawings.

  • Measures and verifies settings and parts by utilizing; Projector, calipers, micrometers, bore gages, height gages, indicators and other measuring equipment as needed.

  • Operate various grinding machines in the department

  • Selects tools and grinding wheels for optimum productivity

  • Selects/Creates work holding for optimum productivity

  • Regularly hold required tolerance

  • Produce customer inspection reports

  • Meet standard productivity requirements

  • Report time and material in manufacturing systems

  • Perform other duties as required

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Safely run and use required equipment

  • Correctly and accurately inspect product using required measuring equipment

  • Required to read and understand work instructions, paperwork and drawings

PREFERRED SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude

  • Maintain required tolerances

  • 1+ years of grinding/related experience

  • Functional and technical skills

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Basic computer skills; excel, word

  • Attention to detail and have sound judgment

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Prolonged standing

  • Regularly required to stoop, kneel, or crouch

  • Regularly lift and move up to 50 lbs

  • Regularly exposed to grease, oils, noise, and coolant/mist.
